If you are looking for a way to start your own mushroom lab to research mushroom varieties or you are interested in starting your mushroom culture, here is what you should know about mushroom spore syringes:
- What is a mushroom spore syringe – they are usually regular syringes filled with a solution made from sterilized water and the spores of the mushroom variety of choice. Mushroom spore syringe kits usually include a sterile needle and a small bottle of alcohol for sterilization.
- How to use your mushroom syringes and what else you will need for your culture or research – the solution in the syringe needs to be either put on agar for germination or injected into a substrate suitable for starting the mushroom colony. Most substrates come in bags that can be hung for more comfortable handling. The first little mushrooms will appear soon after the inoculation.
- Other things you will need – your inoculated substrate will need a moist substrate to be able to provide the basis for your mushroom culture. Your colony will not need too much light, so make sure that the space you use to grow your mushrooms does not get direct light for too long during the day.
