Psilocybin mushrooms, also known as magic mushrooms, are a group of fungi comprised of over 70 species that contain an active compound known as psilocybin, responsible for hallucinogenic effects of the mushrooms. The mushrooms are special when it comes to their effects on the human psyche, but they do not require a special environment to grow. You might ask where do mushroom spores come from? Found all over the world, from Mexico and Canada, to Europe, Asia, Australia as well as in Africa, these hardy mushrooms can thrive well on almost any substrate, all they need being a shaded, protected and moist environment.
The legal status of magic mushrooms being such a complicated issue and one that is in constant change, the question might arise: are magic mushrooms legal in places where they are found naturally? While the issue has not been widely discussed, the logical answer would be no, the legal status of the possession and consumption of magic mushrooms is determined based on the presence of the active compound and not on the circumstances that surround the harvesting process.
If the magic mushrooms are found and picked on the territory of a state or of a country where the consumption and the possession of the mushrooms is legal anyway, the mushrooms can be used freely, but if the state or country in question forbids the activities related to these mushrooms, then picking is illegal.
