The Pink Buffalo strain of Psilocybe cubensis, also referred to as Thai Pink Buffalo or Hairy Buffalo, is a highly regarded mushroom spore variety among mycologists and microscopy enthusiasts. Originally discovered in Thailand by John “Mushroom John” Allen, this strain gained its name due to its association with local fields reportedly inhabited by pink buffalo.
Pink Buffalo mushrooms produce medium to large fruits with caps ranging from 25 to 75 mm in diameter. The caps display reddish-brown to cinnamon tones and often appear very pale cream to white at the margins. The stems are long, ranging from 125 to 200 mm, and may feature an enlarged base or reflective sheen. When damaged, the stems turn an intense blue, a hallmark of psilocybin-rich mushrooms.
This strain thrives in humid climates and demonstrates strong colonization, producing consistent, robust fruiting bodies. The caps may develop a viscid or gelatinous texture, which is unique compared to many other Psilocybe cubensis varieties. Pink Buffalo mushroom spores are excellent for microscopy research, offering striking visual characteristics and a reliable growth profile for both beginner and experienced researchers.
